The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 is a business-class laptop with a 14.5 inch display, a choice of Intel Core Ultra Series 3 “Panther Lake” or AMD Ryzen AI PRO 400 “Gorgon Point” processors, and an emphasis on repairable design. The keyboard, battery, ports, and fans are all designed to be easy to replace. And while the laptop uses low-power LPDDR5x memory, it’s not soldered to the mainboard: this one of a relatively small number of laptops to adopt the LPCAMM2 standard for up to 64GB of removable LPDDR5x RAM. Two trends in laptop memory have been taking hold in recent years. Many PC makers have adopted LPDDR memory for thin and light laptops because it takes up less space and uses less power than removable SODIMMs. And increased demand (without increased supply) has driven up prices of RAM. So it’s nice to see Lenovo adopting removable storage for this business-class laptop, opening the possibility of purchasing just as much memory as you think you’ll need when you buy the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7, while leaving open the possibility of upgrading the memory in the future. The company may also bring LPCAMM2 support to more mainstream laptops in the future – the company recently launched a ThinkBook-branded notebook in China that’s said to support LPCAMM2 modules. Online repair shop iFixit gives the laptop a provisional score of 10 out of 10 for repairability, not only for its user-replaceable memory, but also for making it easy to replace the battery without any tools, offering a simple keyboard replacement path, and making it easy to repair or replace other key components. That’s not to say there isn’t room for improvement though. For example, the Thunderbolt ports features a modular design that makes them easy to replace, but that’s not true for the laptop’s other ports. Some of the laptop’s other features are expected to include up to a 14.5 inch, 2880 x 1800 pixel, 120 Hz OLED display, up to a 5MP IR webcam, up to a 75 Wh battery, and support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The laptop weighs just under 3.1 pounds. Lenovo says the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 will be available in Europe next month for €1,399 and up. It’s expected to start at $1799 when it launches in the US during the second quarter of 2026. Sucks it doesn’t have two full size slots for m2 SSD. In fairness, nvme does get absurdly hot even on standby. What “they” should do, imo, is to reintroduce the 2.5″ ssd, cool, dependable and if we ever need higher speed we put it in ram. Offcourse, there is also that new mini-memory thing that might be both cool and fast? I… kinda love this. If LPCAMM2 memory can run at >8000 it is the way to go. I want a compact build with (capacity for) 128GB and am happy to buy a “barebones” that I can upgrade in the years that come.
