I put an 8 amp battery in it and first tried it on thick cardboard and it nibbled through it very quickly. Then just now as I’m writing this I used it to cut up an old license plate and it made very quick work of it. I did have to slightly tilt the tool as I cut through, like you would when using scissors to cut through thicker material, no big deal to me, but of course this is my first cordless metal shear. I’ve used a lot of different power tools before but never this kind so Im not sure if a more expensive one doesn’t require you to slightly tilt it to cut. Either way it works and is a particularly nice looking tool for the price. The yellow color even matches the dewalt yellow. At first glance the shears look very much like the name brand product it is copying, and the general fit/finish of the tool is quite good. The rubberized grip feels great in hand, the plastic shell halves fit together tightly and the whole thing has a robust feel to it (the shear end is THICK!) I was pleased to find this is equipped with a low voltage protection circuit so it won't kill batteries like some other cheap brands can, and I was pleasantly surprised on the build quality of the internals as well. The weight is exactly as stated on the product page. Functionality while cutting is good, I tried it on some thin gauge aluminum as well as steel flashing, but I was a bit disapointed that the "rotating head" requires you to loosed a screw, then retighten it in the new position or else it may fall off...not as easy as their product page makes it seem. Performance is about on par with other budget cordless shears I’ve used — plenty good for DIY and light project work. You still need to respect the tool (these can be dangerous), but in many situations it actually feels safer than snips since it keeps your hands farther away from sharp sheet-metal edges.
