AIRBILITY Recruits AI Autonomous Flight Expert Dr. Kunwoo Kim from ADD… Materializing Strategy for Global Defense and Personal Aircraft Markets 에이빙
본문
AIRBILITY (Co-CEOs Jinmo Lee and Taekyu Reu), a company specializing in high-speed eVTOL, announced on the 17th that it has recruited Dr. Kunwoo Kim, who has led the development of advanced aviation and defense technology at the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) for 30 years, as Vice President in charge of AI. Vice President Kim served as a senior researcher and team leader of the AI department at ADD, where he designed ‘AI Pilot’ architectures for mobile unmanned aerial platforms and established safety-centered autonomy frameworks that clearly separate high-level decision-making systems from flight control layers. Furthermore, he has developed expertise in multi-domain sensor and AI fusion, including AESA-based aerial radar, SAR radar-based object recognition, and satellite imagery Super-Resolution AI. He also possesses experience in designing distributed multi-agent drone collaboration and autonomous swarm command systems. AIRBILITY internalizes a founding team consisting of core personnel who developed South Korean fighter jets such as the KT-1, T-50, and KF-21, as well as the design team leader for Hyundai Motor’s future mobility and personnel for manned eVTOL commercialization. With the addition of Vice President Kim, AIRBILITY has now gained expertise in the autonomous AI flight sector, spanning aircraft design, system integration, and mobility UX. As the only company in the domestic industry to secure human resources to develop the high-speed Vectored Thrust eVTOL, AIRBILITY plans to advance autonomous mission-execution AI for the AB-U60 high-speed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). As AI-based autonomous operation capabilities for UAVs are considered a key competitive factor in export-oriented revenue structures across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Central and South America, and Europe, the strategy is to strengthen the execution power of C-UAS and DFR global pipelines currently secured in more than nine countries. In addition, as the inclusion of the eVTOL category into the general aircraft market—valued at approximately 370 trillion won—has been virtually confirmed with the finalization of the FAA MOSAIC regulations in the United States, AIRBILITY continues to develop SVO-centered autonomous flight algorithms. Through this, the company envisions solidifying the commercialization foundation for the AB-M1300, which aims to be a ‘personal aircraft that anyone can pilot.’ Kunwoo Kim, the new Vice President of AIRBILITY, stated, “I intend to integrate the experience in AI autonomous flight and system architecture accumulated at ADD into AIRBILITY’s high-speed eVTOL platform. Through this, we will realize autonomous UAV solutions ready for immediate deployment in the defense market and an experience where anyone can safely fly in the sky in the personal aviation market.” Jinmo Lee, CEO of AIRBILITY, emphasized, “With the joining of Vice President Kim, who encompasses both fighter jet DNA and AI autonomous flight, we have secured a technological advantage in the global defense and public safety sectors, as well as the MOSAIC-based personal eVTOL market.”
