The company said on March 10 that the new memory was developed using its 10-nanometer-class sixth-generation (1c) process technology and has recently completed the necessary certification procedures. SK hynix plans to finalize preparations for mass production in the first half of the year and begin supplying the product to global customers in the second half. LPDDR (Low Power Double Data Rate) is a low-power DRAM standard widely used in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Designed to operate with low voltage, LPDDR memory minimizes power consumption while maintaining high performance. The latest specification in this category is LPDDR6. The newly developed LPDDR6 DRAM is optimized for on-device AI environments, where artificial intelligence processing is performed directly on mobile devices without relying on external servers. Compared with the previous LPDDR5X generation, the new product improves data processing speed by about 33 percent. By adopting a sub-channel architecture and Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) technology, the new memory reduces power consumption by more than 20 percent compared with the previous generation. DVFS technology further optimizes performance and power usage by dynamically adjusting voltage and frequency depending on workload conditions. For example, the system can increase frequency to secure maximum bandwidth during high-performance tasks such as advanced gaming or intensive computing, while lowering power consumption in everyday use to extend battery life. SK hynix expects the new LPDDR6 memory to improve both multitasking performance and battery efficiency in mobile devices.
