JAKARTA The Chinese government proposes the establishment of a new organization to encourage global cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), in an effort to strengthen its position as an alternative to the dominance of the United States in this technology sector. "We must strengthen coordination to establish a global AI governance framework that has a wide consensus as quickly as possible," he said. Although he did not explicitly refer to the United States, Li warned that AI risks becoming an "exclusive game" belonging to a handful of countries and large companies. He stressed that all countries and companies should have equal rights to take advantage of this technology. "China is willing to share AI development experiences and results with other countries, especially the South Global countries," said Li. Global AI Competition Increases The three-day conference was held amid rising tensions between China and the United States in technological competition. AI is now one of the main terrains for the global influence struggle between the world's two largest economies. Washington has imposed high-tech export restrictions on China, including the most advanced AI chips from companies such as Nvidia and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The main reason is the concern that the technology could be used to strengthen China's military capabilities.
